We currently have an urgent appeal for safe houses that can take on some special needs birds. Think you can help? Please see this forum post for more information.
Hi, my name is Charlie and I am a 17 year old female Timneh African Grey. I have spent all of my life with my previous owner who has recently passed away aged 103! Unfortunately I have never been out of my cage as my Mum was worried about not being able to get me back in (I was faster than she was)! I have cataracts in both eyes so I have impaired vision, but I am very trusting, and settled into my new safehouse very quickly. Like humans with failing sight my hearing seems to be extra good, and I can hear you coming and will position myself at the corner or side of my cage nearest you ready for a tickle. Tickle me a little and I start regurgitating for you to show that I both love and trust you. I am currently on medication (for my eyes) but you just need to put 2 drops daily on my fruit and I am fine with that. My safehouse Dad says I took to all members of his family (male & female) equally quickly, but I have never experienced children. I guess I would be fine if they weren’t too boisterous, but I just don’t know. I am looking for a home where someone can be around pretty much all day, as this is what I am used to, though my safehouse Dad thinks I will be fine on my own for a few hours provided you leave the radio or TV on for me. At my safehouse I have another bird for company which I quite like. Ideally I am looking for someone who can spend loads of time with me, getting me used to those things you call hands! I currently get startled and frightened by them, so I need a bit of gentle coaxing and convincing that your hands are not alien and won’t hurt me. If you think you’ve got the time to do this, I think I would love to come out of my cage one day and be cuddled by you. I can say "Hello" and I try to say other things though my safehouse Dad hasn’t worked out what they are yet! I come with my own cage which I would like to keep, as I know my way around it. I am lodging in Chippenham, North Wiltshire but ideally need to be rehomed within the South Devon Area as I am under the vet in Abbotskerswell.
