Hello everyone. New to the forum but not aviculture and parrots.  Whilst working overseas I used to help rear and socialise parrots on behalf of others and owned a Moluccan Cockatoo for quite a while.  Then in Germany I owned two Orange Wings (one spoke Dutch!!!).  I never wanted to stress the birds by moving them around the globe so found very good homes for them.  Last time I owned a parrot was in 1997.  Now I am settled in one location for the rest of my life so to speak.  I have been looking at parrots again and could, of course, simply buy a handreared one but my previous work socialising parrots has stuck; basically I would like to give a parrot a chance at having a good and fullfilling environment so plan to foster.  I am experienced I suppose but not an expert and can only draw from my experiences and what I have read.  I have been visiting birds at breeders recently and a large Parrot Sanctuary near to Leicester which was extremely enjoyable.  I have applied to foster a particular bird and, as requested, will now be a good person and be patient. Thank you for reading this.  Regards, Richard

Hi Richard, I am member of a parrot santuary in friskney lincolnshire. Good luck with the application, I like you could have bought a hand read baby but wanted to give a well deserved home to one that was "homeless" as such. Fostering parrots is by no means an easy option, I have had a few myself but i have found it most rewarding compared to ones that have been bought from breeders. Although I am new to birdline and havent fostered a BL bird yet i know how difficult it can be.

Good luck with your application, I know you will find it rewarding

Hi Richard, welcome to BL.

You'll find everyone here friendly and helpful and completely mad about parrots.

I know you have applied to foster a bird, but have you considered safehousing? BL couldn't function without it's safehouses and it can be a very special way of helping a wide number of needy birds, gaining experience of a range of species.
