i've had my 2 CAG's and 1 TAG  for 7yrs,

but belle the little TAG his/her feathers never seem as good as the CAG's skye an beau.

belle did have a little bit of a rough start....who eva sold her to pets at home had cut her wing feathers really bad,

and she kept falling over...thats why i brought her/him.

every spring she does pluck a few feathers on her legs and chest (vet says this is hormonal.)

this year shes doing fine.

the only problem is ,it may just be me but her feathers aren't as thick looking as the CAG's

looks like little bald patch's on her head. the vet has never showed any concern.

can they have skin prob's etc  because it does look a little, not sore as such but not as dusty as the CAG's

hope i haven't babbled to much .

any advice

thanks anne and baby belle

We have a 40 year old TAG who has always had bad feathering,we know this as he has been in Adie family all his life. When he came to us a few years ago,he had always chewed off his flights,an as I said, had always had bad feathering. We started to give him 1/2 a walnut every day,as we had had success before with this, with a different species bird. After a few months his feather condition improved and he started to leave his flights alone.
Like I say,a few years down the line,he is now fully flighted, and his feathers are healthy and dense.
We are not sure weather it is the actual nut,or the fiberous stuff between the nut and shell, but it seems to have worked.
Once the problems had started to subside(about 6 months),we then dropped the 1/2 walnut from daily to every other day.
We suggested this method to someone else that we know who has a plucker, and after about 6 months, the plucking has subsided to some degree, but, the birds feathers are a lot better condition than they were.
This may just be coincedental, but we swear by it.........give it a try,you never know and have nothing to lose (unless she dont like walnuts...lol.)

Anne,

It was nice to meet you, Terry and especially Belle today. I must say that I didn't notice Belle's feathers to be in poor condition, but I hope she enjoys her walnut nevertheless.
