Rachel, there might not have been anything dreadful in Sally's past - who knows? Some birds just don't want to be touched. I have an Orange Winged Amazon here, she's lived with me for over 12 years, and will step up, and happily sit on my shoulder, but makes it very plain that she wants just that - no more - no touching at all! We're Safehousing an elderly Ammy, around 50 years old, who's an absolute sweetie, but the same thing applies - no touching. He loves to sing with me, he'll chat away all day, and gets louder when I'm on the phone, joins in with everything, but.... no touching. Not all birds want physical contact. Keep on trying, no harm in that, and you might well get Sally to accept a tickle or a cuddle in time. Don't be heartbroken if not, though. Enjoy her anyway.
