Sharon Ls tiel Koda is due for another op tomorrow at Ian's. I mention it here because I know a lot of people will want to wish her well. She is a small bird with a massive personality, and has had to put up with a lot. Hope it all goes well in the morning.

Chris

Bless her, she is running around the floor totally unaware of what tomorrow holds in store for her. These bloomin' ingrowing feathers... Will keep you all posted on how she gets on. Thank you for all the good wishes

I don't know Koda's background but Good Luck little one. Thinking of you on Friday and best wishes for a speedy recovery. My thoughts are also with Sharon as it is probably more stressful for her than for Koda!

Well, she's back home........

Ian says that no one really knows why some birds produce these cysts and in some cases removing one will lead to another one appearing elsewhere. It would seem Koda is sadly one of these birds.....altogether she has had four now. He has drained the fluid from it but could not operate to remove the feather follicle because he cannot yet see a feather forming in the cyst. Once there is evidence of one he can carefully open the cyst and zap the feather follicle with his laser thingy( I am so technical!) so that follicle will in effect die.

I shall just see what happens..... I may just have this one done and if another appears just learn to accept that they are not going away. I would like to try and find out what research has been done on them though. Koda, like all my birds are on a complete pelleted diet. They either have Harrisons or Kaytee. Koda WAS on Harrisons until shetole some of Thea's Kaytee - now she is a Kaytee addict. I would prefer her back on Harrisons as it is organic. Maybe I will PM Shaz and see if she can suggest any natural remedies I could try.

Glad to have her home :-)

Sharon, So pleased she is back home - poor little thing. As I said earlier it must be more stressful for you than for her so I am pleased for you also. I'm sure you are doing and will continue to do what you feel is best for her. Good Luck with her.

It's actually a standing joke here that Koda has Munchausen's disease by proxy. It's just an excuse for her mum to go and ogle the vet!
