Myself and Madelyn can't thankyou all enough. It's such a difficult decision to make. We have a little experience and a lot to give and a lot to learn, we are confident and more importantly have the confidence to ask advice. Had a long/informative conversation with Lesley tonight. We've made our mind up, we are applying to be a safe house.

Our BL U2 has been here for two years. She has eaten 3 pairs of curtains , 2 throws we put over the setee to protect that, a lampshade, 2 scatter cushions ,her Aviator harness, has had a go at the ceiling beams which are now covered in plastic guttering to protect them, so many perches I've lost count, dozens of t-shirts and enough wood that would make a forest but would I be without her? Never! We haven't had holidays since we got our first bird 6 years ago so it is something you do have to take into concideration. Our girl is very choosy who she does and doesn't like Men she loves, women she only likes if they don't have a man! She can fly at a woman she decides she doesn't like so you have to be very aware when she is out. She can take a dislike to everyday objects for example she hates my chopping boards for some obscure reason and will take off if you should move them even an inch while she is with you.But on the other hand she is so soppy and adores her cuddles.Noisy, she doen't make a noise that often but when she does the whole village more or less can hear her! She likes routine which she doesn't like broken. Last Friday we went out for a meal in the evening for the first time for ages & she sulked when we came back wouldn't even come to me!! A Too is also like a child but the most loveable kind.A Too will seriously change your life but for me only for the better!

Thank heavens for that. Good decision guys. Find out for yourselves what sort of bird fits into your life and whose needs you can meet. I was praying you wouldn't take on the toos without knowing a lot more. I can't tell you how much you will learn and how rewarding safehousing is. I am sure Lesley will look after you.

I think you have made an excellent decision. Safehousing gives you a chance to 'try' different species without commiting you to anything long term. I fthe right bird happens to come your way, then you (along with all other members) have the opportunity to apply for them, and you'd be considered by the Rehoming Team on your merits.

You know that BL birds are definitely in need of help - their owners have donated them to the charity form any number of reasons, whereas, if you are buying a bird, there's no knowing whether they will be replaced when you're out of the door.

You will get lots of support from Lesley and the opportunity to ask lots of questions on here (as you already have )

Well done - wise decision. It's something that you need to consider very carefully, a mistake is damaging to both the family and the bird. Safehousing is a way to learn enormous amounts very quickly. And it's fun.
