Hi

when people set up an avatar why not add your location?? It only needs to be a county if you prefer, but one of the first questions we always ask is "where are you from?" There are ACO's that cover certain areas and it's nice to know who is interested in Birdline in the different areas. Also if you are asking a question someone near by is more likely to answer and try to help.

Laura

I noticed we are a bit short of peeps down here, lol I couldn't find a ACO that said Hampshire. I have just added the Birdline link to my blog, little bit of a advertising doesn't hurt, spread the word of the fabulous work done here. sue,x

There are several areas where we are very thin on the ground. We are going to try to find shows to try to fill in the gaps. Oxfordshire is one, Dorset area another, I am working on it! But anyone can print out the poster from the member documents area and put it up in any likely places, that can only help to get the word out.

You're right, Sue, there are huge gaps in some areas, and that's where we need help. Have you thought about being a Safe House? Or perhaps you could do pickups sometimes? There are lots of ways Birdline could use you if you've time on your hands. Looking at the map, Laura looks to be your nearest body. I'm near Croydon, and there's another ACO in W Sussex (Kathy, in Shoreham-by-Sea), so you've got a choice, lucky you! I agree with Laura about putting in your area - I've never understood why people don't, it's only the county, not the private address. Feel free to contact Laura, Kathy or me with any questions - welcome aboard!

Hi Sharon,

Have you guys thought about adding/updating a blog to this site in order to get more traffic which would result in more ACO's, safe houses, locations and possible donations etc. Blogs encourage both users and search engine to return and the ability to tailor your posts to your chosen keywords make them a useful search engine tool.

Maybe also look at Twitter - I'm not a great fan of social media but it can get you good results and publicity.

Obviously on a blog you could advertise for certain areas, events and success stories and not just a forum.

Still think the site is excellent and must heap praise on the charity and web designer - I never sign up to forums but this site/charity has got me hooked but I'm sure there are people out there who won't register to join the forum but would read a news/blog post.

Hi Doddie
i was so keen i mailed a couple of ladies, lol, Kathy has just got back to me with her number, i will be back home on sunday im away in my caravan at the mo, i would love to be a safe house, so i hope we pas muster, would also like to adopt, thought being a safe house would give me a good grounding for all the different birdies out there, i cam across you after i didnt get a baby parrot i was hoping for, so all worked out for the best i think. sue,x

Thanks Razorsmile, that is a good idea. I could expand what I was writing about Z to make a blog. I will forward your suggestion to Marc to see if this is something the directors think would be a good idea.

Thank you Sharon.....I'm sure it would get you more traffic.... like wise if you guys get a Twiiter account and follow or tweet on vet websites, animal/pet based websites and other bird related twitter accounts - traffic, safe houses and ACO's will come, along with some well deserved donations.

Stuart

Stuart- where do you live ?? If you don't have a location on your avatar then why not add it? It really helps ACO's to see who is around in their area.
I am not an ACO,rather an ACO assistant to Doddie. I refer to myself as an ACOa! I do collections, drop offs, homechecks, safehouse, foster, shows and whatever else Doddie and Mel decide. It sounds alot but I also work full time and just do what I can when I can. They ask and if I can I will. It's not as big a commitment as being an ACO but I like to think it helps them and the birds in our area.
I'm always willing to try and answer any questions about how people can help,so don't be shy add your location and get in touch and involved!!

I know what you mean Stuart, but a county isn't too personnel- LOL. It's all I added. Thanks for adding yours. Is there anyone else out there from the South that needs to add their location?? I'm looking for you....
