A little Percy update!

Percy is a lot happier since his wing clip, he knows the routine and when I get home from work is pacing up and down his perch to be let out.
He comes out and more often than not comes over with his head lowered for a tickle tickle. We cut the legs on his cage as he likes to perch on top and he was higher than us, this has also helped. He still dosn't step up, but he does put a foot onto my daughters hand which is a start. We are taking each day at a time some days he dosn't want to be touched and he has nipped but nothing like he used to. He has started talking again and has now learnt to bark he also says "comin out then"? I cant believe the change in him in such a short space of time iam quite confident that we will have a long and happy future TOGETHER

That is REALLY good news. Isn't it amazing how a wing clip, a routine and self confidence in you can change things? Well done to you and Percy. I hope you have very many happy years together xxx

Well done with sticking with it, you will reap lots and lots of rewards as he continues to become more confident.

Well done and keep us updated.

I have a mega soft spot for Yellow Crowned Ammies as my own BL one (Fido) is such a character!! Which translated means he can be naughty and bite but its rare but he does keep me on my toes!! He much prefers cuddles with hid Dad but quite often for no apparant reason he will change and only want me!! Why do we do it? I've never had a dog that loved me one day and hated me the next ROFL

i am hoping one day we will be able to cuddle him. Would like to get him a stand any advice on how to get him onto it when he is not confident enough to step up. We tried using a perch when he used to fly onto the window sill he would step onto it then fly when we started to move it

treats and toys and as you've already discovered ....................patience.

Leave the stand near his cage and when you are talking to him touch the stand and let him know its ok. I put my stand near the cage so when he was sat on top of his cage, he could step onto the stand. Eventually he did, now he is happy to sit for as long as is needed. LOts of stuff to keep him amused which allows us to have one on one time with the rest of the gang!

I have a really settled flock here and 2 of them totally freaked when they flew into the lounge and our wicker picnic box was on the floor. They left pronto and would not come back even though the hamper was gone. Its taken 2 days for them to venture back.

I'm really happy for yourself and Percy, it's an amazing change of direction he's taken. I made a play stand and put it right next to the door of the cage to start with so Kelly can climb straight onto it, she's not keen on flying to it but will take a short hop quite happily.

I know this might seem silly, but maybe he thought you were gonna take him to the vets again.  I had a cockatoo and he was being bolshie one dayso I told him I would take him to the vet for a jab.  (My dog was having her vaccinations), he spun around and said in no uncertainterms NO.  I do think they know what we sy and remember what we do

Oh I'm a firm believer in birds remembering what you do to them, so a good point made by Gillie there.

They will also remember being wing clipped.

If you think Percy's shy of getting into the carrier, persuade him, bribe him, get him in there somehow, and take him to somewhere nice. Go and have a cuppa at your local park, go to open spaces, fields, woods, etc. and sit, and let him out. If you do this a few times, he'll get used to the carrier being something that he enjoys, because he goes somewhere interesting. Even if it's just to the end of the garden... then, if you need him to go to the vet, it won't be a trauma for him.
