Hi, I noticed that on the rehoming list there is a Grey looking for that special somebody only about 40 minutes drive away from me (they are in the Hornsea area) can one of the ACO's or forum members please advise which avian vet is logged for this area so that I can make sure that the old stick who lives with me has one on tap if we ever need one please? Errr the old stick by the way is Dizzy not myself even if he is just a year older then me lol. Many thanks

The vet list has just been updated and will be posted in the next few days, we hope! In the interim, it might be worth a note to Scarlett to see who she uses as she is the closest person to you, I think.

Oooh you want Andy Forsyth, that`s who we use and have found him to be excellent.

It`s Battle Flatts Vets in Strensall which is near York. They do have 3 other branches too, that`s the one we use and I think would be closest to you.

Oh, and even if he doesn`t need a vet right now it`s always worth registering him, in case of an emergency. That way they can look up all his details straight away. Just a thought

Scarlett

Ok Dizzy now has his avian vet in the bag errr so to speak I didn't kidnap one honest!!!!Avian vet is just over an hours drive away but think we have it sussed now in a two pronged attack! Instant access to a vet is 2 minutes up the street and he has done quite a few birdie courses but isn't an avian vet (birdwise he deals with raptors more than anything) so will be able to provide enough instant first aid if required buying Dizzy enough time to get to a specialist. Dizz is now registered at Battleflatts at Stamford Bridge (with Mark). Yipppeeee for Dizzy and condolences for Mark when the eventually meet lol. Apparently they do a yearly health check which I can see is going to be really really stressful for me and Dizz, really really really not keen on the idea of knocking Dizzy out for blood samples trying to weight up the pro's and con's of doing it I'd love to have him for ever and ever (poor Diz!!) but knocking them out especially when they aren't tame birds, don't travel, don't do towels and are 47 just seems like tempting fate.....I'd never forgive myself if anything was too happen especially as he's now doing so well. We are going to do the birdy poop sample thingy via the post feel sorry for anybody if they get the wrong post delivered hehehe. Now just have to get my head around training Diz about travel cages and going in the car as well as step up AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH :o/

So you`re going to be busy....and bleeding for quite a while then! Lol

Try just putting the travel cage out with the door open on the floor full of toys and favourite treats and see if he`ll venture in it of his own accord.
If he does, don`t shut the door, just leave him until he comes out on his own. let him do it a few times so he sees it as a good fun place.

That`s what we do with ours, Harley loves his travel cage now.

Hi Scarlett, best add human first aid kits on special delivery on to your wedsite and make sure you have a huge stash I'll need them!!!! Dizzy already knows what the travel cage means I took him the first week he moved in as his breathing was really bad I arrived at the vets with Dizzy complete with a dish of spaghetti hoops in the bottom of the cage. That really took some explaining that it really wasn't his normal food!!! It's a heaven sent blessing that I'm partially deaf in both ears cos I was able to take my hearing aids out and ignore the racket in the car on the way there oooo you should have heared him yell he was in a foul temper - poor vet got the full brunt of it. I refused to get Dizzy out and left the vet to get bitten poor man earned his pennies that day lmao Since that day travel cage according to Dizzy should banned it comes out and he vanishes!!!!

Have popped the travel cage out on the floor in the living room next to Dizzy's cage cunningly disguised as a large cardboard box and have put the cats bed inside it.....cunning plan eh? Dizzy loves the cat bed and in theory if the cage no longer looks like the cage but like a lovely cardboard hidding place thats chewable maybe his lordship can be fooled????!!!!

Oh and by the way the cardboard surrounded carrier works - he's popping in and out of it all the time whilst he's mooching around I throw rolled up paper into it and he piles in there to shred it. At long last a plan that worked - Scores so far Tasha 1 Dizzy 374
lol

Tasha,

Well done - again - you deserve a lot more credit than you give yourself.

One question - could you take Dizzy, travel cage and cardboard box to the vets when you need to? And what will the cat sleep in while you're out?
