Lovely pics Daz and welcome to the forum, i used to have a 6 ft Iggy, named wait for it .............. "iggy" she was adorable, she came to me at 3ft with a broken leg which we eventually got right, the vet from Birch Heath at cheshire said she was the healthiest he had ever seen and he specialized in reptiles, we had to rehome her when she out grew her home made (very large) viv as we could not give her her own room, we had a call from the vet 6 months later as they had taken her in with a stomach full of absecses as she had eaten the substrate off the bottom of her cage and they had left it too long and there was nothing he could do, we where devasted and so was he as he knew how much work we had done to get her healthy in the first place. Hi emm, thats a shame and a shame you had to rehome,iv had my fair share of iggies iv taken in to get right my last Jaffa was a little darling by the time i sorted her.she was only little for her age as the previous keepers before my friend took her on,the problem with my friend who had before me took it on and to be honest was way in over his head as he'd only been keeping reps a few months, anyway he turned up 1 day with her and basically gave her to me as he couldnt no longer cope.
She had the biggest attitude id ever seen in an iggy, she would launch herself at who ever to bite, tail whip etc she was not a happy iggy at all,she was under weight but soon gained it back once she was settled with,it took 2 wks in all to her to where you could actually cuddle her and she would relax round me LOL,lots of hrs went into her and was worth every bit of it,once i got her to where she was safer to handle, confident and back upto weight i rehoused her and now shes settled with new owner who stays in touch and keeps me updated on how shes doing,it makes me feel it was worth all the effort, and what a great feeling it is,though i do miss her somtimes but thats all part of caring about the the animal.
heres the last pic i got of her with me before she went to her new home

Hi clair strange enough me and a friend was on about this last nite.
I always find the key to owning any animal, domestic or exotic is learning how to read them.mannerisms, disposition general behavior,iv spent the last 10yrs round reptiles and can read most like a book just by watching them and learning how to read the animal, what they doing why they are doing what there doing, then trying to get into there heads to know what ther thinking or planning, alot of people think mainly reptiles they just just bite this infact very misleading, nearly all will avoid confrontation and will give you a warning, the easiest example is the rattlesnake for instance,it will sit coiled up,rattle its tail to warn you in the hope you wont become confrontational and just wants to be left alone,a none venomous snake like a python or boa will hiss and sit in an S up position ready to defend and to warn he just wants to be left alone, the same goes for lizards, iggies will stand tall, lower ther dewlap, bob the head with mouth open to warn you off,at the end of it all big or small youve been warned if you dont take notice they will bite, theres nearly always a warning, the reason i nearly is take the anaconda this is probably the hardest snake many keepers have trouble with,iv had numerous bites from this species,iv had a black eye and it tor my eye lid from a 3ft baby to 16ft anaconda hanging of my arms, these are in my opinion and experience not suitable pets by along shot, they give no warning and are unpredictable, but its all part of enjoying the hobby LOL,when people ask about bites, clawed etc i always reply,1 its a wild animal and its wild natural instincts are always there, but when keeping snakes you get bitten and if you keep lizards you get bitten, clawed and tailed whipped, like playing with fire you get burned. The risk and chance is always there.Im not claiming to be any kind of expert with the reptiles but iv learned alot experienced alot and always push to be the best i can be and the give the animals the best life possible,if there happy im happy,if there sad im sad as it means im doing somthing wrong and work hard to correct it asap.
I always say to anybody who wants to get into reptiles/exotic animals research is a must, learn from experienced keepers, ask questions if you dont know or cant find the answer your looking for, always be prepared to be bitten, clawed etc and the biggest thing of all is learn how to read your animal and they will tell/show you,but this comes with experience and spending the time with them or around them
Im looking forward to hopefully working with the parrots/birds and learning there behaviour and how to read them,iv got alot to learn and reseaching all the time i have spare, this will be a new chapter in my animal life to expand my knowledge even further, everyday is a school day to me you always learn somthing new LOL
