Hi all,

Now that our macaw has settled in really well i have been looking for a good training dvd, call me lazy but i have done more reading in this last few months than i ever have before.

Can anyone recommend a good dvd for me to buy or would any kind hearted people like to borrow me one? Cheeky i know but no harm in trying eh.

I have been looking on line as usual at all the differant dvds available and i keep getting attacked by the same one, which is a MR Chet Womach from Birdtricks.  After looking at some of his work it seems good but i think things would take longer to do than what he says but the training seems ok.

Has anybody got these dvds and if so what do you think as these are alot of coin for me to spend just to find out that they are rubbish.

Sorry i should of pointed out that i do not want her to be a performing parrot or anything like that, i would just like to be able to teach her and myself anything which will give her something to learn and keep her actively wanting to learn

Hi Marky, I have one of Chet Womack's dvds, called Taming Training and Tricks. Like you, I didn't want my bird to be a performer, but training helps establish a relationship with your bird, and he deals with all kinds of problems etc. as well. My bird didn't learn much from the dvd, but I did - loads. All kinds of things. I don't agree with everything he does - his feeding regime is not something I would do - but in general it was helpful. If you pm me, I can post this to you. I don't want anything for it, but it would be nice to know it was being of use to someone else. Let me know.

Hi Doddie and Marky , just wondering if when you have watched it Marky could you pass it on to me and then i caould pass it on to the next person and so on just like you marky all you ever get is chet and i must say he goes on a bit doesnt he so if i could watch a dvd first and then see if he is actually worth investing in any more of his dvds Thanks Nicky

Yeh there's no problem with that, i have private messaged doddie and as soon as i know whats going on i will message you to let you know.

Maybe if it is ok with Doddie we could pass it around and if people like what they see we could all organise to chip in for the full package of birdtricks, share it, and all spend a little less as like you say they are expensive and i think i worked out the complete package was £180!!!!!!!!!

I will post it to Marky in a few days. About 6 years ago I sent off for it, and paid around £25, don't know what it costs these days. It was useful in parts. I'm quite happy for it to be passed around, I have watched it, and don't need it here, so you're welcome to do whatever you want with it.

I would be interested in borrowing it aswell please, I have done basic training with all of mine, just nail care, wing care and beak care, also paper training, which has been extremely successful with most of mine, but especially my macaw he loves to learn, so would be great to get some ideas of what else i can do.

once i have passed it on i will see if Nicky will pass it to you, My macaw is 31week old so i could really do with trying the things you have trained your to do, as these are essentail parts of caring for her - How did you teach these methods, did you attend one of these parrot courses or pick it up through research?

Hi Nicky got your mail will respond to you later with some additional stuff Doddie sent me via email and i will private message these details to the rest who are interested as well, it will be after 7pm tonight after i have got my girls to bed.
I agree with Spike as there has been so much interest maybe some how we could set up a library of books or dvds which people do not mind passing on.

John be carefuller about writing about copy's as i got a vary snotty letter a few months ago with regard to copyright after posting something similar on another site. To speed things up it is not illegal to put a copy of the disc on your pc for your own use so if people do that it could get passed around a little faster
Lastly i think i might of sourced another of these DVDs, however until i see which one Doddie is sending i cannot confirm but if it is different i will send on with the other disc, that is if Doddie does not want to view first. Will keep you all updated

Hi all i received the Dvd from Doddie and it will be going in the post tomorrow for Nicky, who ever wants it next if not already done please contact her, the other disc that i thought i had got does not work so it will only be Doddies disc going in the post.
This is a good example of the kind of work they do at birdtricks so thank you Doddie, if i do manage to get hold of any more i will let you all know and pass it on, i have been searching the net for a download but most of them so far are blocked or coded so when you do download you only see a stripe of the picture.
