Hi can I again please remind members to apply for one bird at a time.
Rehoming has only been open for a day and already we have the same person applying for more than one bird.
Please apply for one bird as having to call the same person two or three times for different birds, will slow down the rehoming progress. Each bird is dealt with individually.
We know its exciting and we all want these birds to find their forever homes, we will get round to you all.
When your application has been dealt with and you have either been told you are or are not successful in your application then this is the time to go ahead and apply for another bird
Thank You
Mel

This is not Happening
Please apply for one bird only, we have to call the same person otherwise regarding 3 or 4 birds they have applied for.
Thanks

Some members are still applying for several birds at one time.
Please one bird only. It slows the process of rehoming down, we want all these birds to find their forever homes.
Thank you

Would it be possible to change the rehoming application, so it states clearly at the top IN VERY BIG LETTERS. "IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY APPLIED TO REHOME A BIRD OFF THIS LIST AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A DECISION YET, YOU MAY NOT APPLY FOR ANOTHER BIRD UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE RECEIVED A DECISION FROM THE REHOMING TEAM." |

Why not go one step further? ANYONE FOUND APPLYING FOR MORE THAN ONE BIRD WILL HAVE ALL EXISTING APPLICATIONS RETURNED/DELETED |

I think people like to 'edge their bets' when applying for birds. I guess they think that if they have 4 applications in they are 4 times as likely to get a bird. I don't think they fully understand that the rehoming process goes from start to finish per bird and not per applicant..therefore they are creating 4 times the work. I am unsure what the answer is ...people clearly need to be advised and not all of them frequent the forums (I am guessing) so they may not see threads such as this one. Perhaps a 'message' at the top of the online application form is appropriate (although there will still be peeps that ignore it.....LOL) |

Maybe an extra question could be added along the lines of should this application be unsuccessful are there any other birds you would like to be considered for? this would prevent people from making several applications? |

Granted, some people do not come on the forum so it must be VERY clear. However, if they do not take enough time and care to read properly the terms, then are we sure they will take enough time and care with a bird? Or am I being too harsh. Personally, when the welfare of these guys is a stake I think not. |

Although I dont feel comfortable with it, I tend to agree with Sharon. When I applied to foster Jasper, it did not even occur to me to apply for other birds at the same time. Having looked through all the birds looking for a home, it became obvious Jasper was the one to apply for. Also having read as much as possible about the process, it became obvious that if not successfull with regard to him, I may have been asked to foster a different bird. If neither happened, there are always lots of birds looking for homes, and I would just apply again once the process for Jasper had been completed. It is a very frustrating process, I have to admit myself, a great amount of patience is needed. But once the right bird has been fostered its a great feeling, and the work begins!! Good luck everyone currently applying, and stay patient :-) |

Actually I quite like Tina's suggestion...
Maybe an extra question could be added along the lines of should this application be unsuccessful are there any other birds you would like to be considered for? this would prevent people from making several applications?
It is not as 'hardline' as other suggestions but I think it could be equally effective. It makes it clear that only one application is necessary whilst telling the applicant that they have effectively applied for other birds if unsuccesful (without them having to complete an extra application form).
I think after that, if they still complete other application forms they should be returned. After all there is chancing your arm and edging your bets and then just being a NUISANCE...LOL |

I personally think a link at the very top of the rehoming list would be great if it can be done. As quite rightly pointed out, not everyone who applies views the forums and so we need something to stand out either on the application form, or the top of the rehoming list. |

I kind of agree with SharonL and swwchris. If they're not taking their time to explore the forum a little bit to learn the rules/ choose a bird carefully, you do have to wonder how dedicated they will be. Shouldn't be a rushed decision. However, a tab at the top of the website would definitely be helpful... I'm still waiting for the bird I want to apply for. Anyday now |

It is fine asking if they are interested in another bird if their application is unsuccessful, as long as there is a bird they are interested in at the same time as their original application. I can see problems occuring, due to the length of time rehoming takes, that the rehoming list is updated and they then see a bird on the revised list. You could then have a sitaution where the rehoming team are taking calls asking for birds to be added on the bottom of their application. ~Just a thought.... |

Not wanting to sound negative here but..... If people were able to add more than one bird at a time I fear it could end up being a case of making do with SECOND BEST.I believe that the one bird that has initially been applied for will been carefully thought about and the write up studied thoroughly before applying. I do understand the disappointment you will feel if you are unsuccessful for that particular bird. However when you have been advised of the decision, the chances are that there will have been more birds added to the list, that could possibly be better suited than your second choice would have been, then the rehoming team would have people changing their minds and asking them to take the second choice off and add another one instead. This could end up giving the rehoming team a lot of extra work and end up slowing down the process even further. I will however bring this subject up for discusiion in a forthcoming meeting with the directors.

I agree Anne. After all, it is about the birds and not us humans. The birds. HAVE to come first. It should stay s is and apply for one bird at a time. Maybe as a few members said, have It in BIG, BOLD, RED, letters at The top of the application form that you are allowed to apply for one bird only. Maybe inforce it by putting some kind of penalty in place, actually stating it on The form as a deterant? |

When I look at the rehoming list, I do try not to but can't help myself sometimes, I love them all but you are always drawn to one or two in particular. I definitely would take a harsh line and if for example you would take a grey, any grey and this is my 'preference' list, I would not want to be the bird in 10th that gets to come live with you if I only made it to number 10 on your list. These babies are too precious to mess about with and I agree with all the other comments about reading the forum etc etc. Sometimes I do worry that some see this as an easy option to get a bird. Thankfully BL peeps are too diligent not to spot that. No easy answer but if this was democracy and I had a vote, HARSH, HARSH HARSH is my vote, the rehoming teams time is precious and can do without it being wasted. |

I agree with Victoria and Ann The birds should come first- and if anyone is applying for more than one bird - then it implies they'll take whatever they can get - rather than focussing on the individual bird and its needs. I would prefer the rehoming team to be harsh - - make it clear on the application process ONE bird only - then if multliple applications are received - reject all the applications and tell them why.
