Hello i live in wigan, i joined the ranks of being owned by a parrot two weeks ago, i got an 8 week old blue quaker who has been hand reared and is a joy to have, i also have a chicken who mostly lives in the house and when pippy went near Quizzy's cage he would rush straight down to her and chatter away so i felt he was lonely so today a one year old jenday conure joined us called Milly, boy what a shock that was LOL the cat legged it when she screeched and she keeps waking the dogs up who llok lightly shocked and confused lol
I personally like the noise but after just reading someone had to give their conure up due to the neighbour complaing i'm getting ever so slightly worried.
I was told milly came with a large cage that was totally suitable, however i seriously have to question some peoples sense of large this is what she lives in...

I have sourced a large indoor aviary for her which i'll get this week sometimes.
I alos run a ferret sanctuary and have many other pets
Incidently which catagory do conures and quakers fit in on the breeds specific forum? |

Hi and welcome. Something I have to say is that not only is that cage too small but round cages are a really bad idea. You really need to get Milly a new residence asap. |

Hi thank you for your concern but i have already said i have sourced a new cage that i'll be getting this week, its a huge indooor aviary that she can even fly in a bit, i found the cage before i even went to pick her up as i could see in the photo which was only a partial shot that it was going to be a really small cage. she has lived in that cage for a year and will have to manage a few more days as i'ts the best i can do. |

Your new cage looks much better The cage the conure came in is awful, round cages are a definate no-no. Well done on finding him and offering him a home, fingers crossed things work out for you x |

Oh and just to add, conures are probably one of the more popular birds handed into rescues because of noise issues - They are extremely loud. But if you can keep the noise quiet first thing in a morning, and last thing at night, and you have reasonable neighbours you should be OK. Do you get on well with your neighbours? |

If you like the noise conures make, have I got a bird for you...... Goggle Red Fronted Conure. Bigger than Jendays, with a bigger voice! To add to what's already been said - round cages are extremely bad, however big. They cause psychological problems in birds. And you are going to let your conure out to fly each day, aren't you? I had to cover her up last ight as she was still screeching at half ten, i'm really limited on where to put her and last night she was on the party wall, i've moved her a few feet away now but the only room without a party wall is the kitchen. I'm trying to ignore the loud screeching and talk to her when she sort of mumbles which is much lower in decibles, as i was moving her cage round i made some clicking noises to try reassure her and she copiied me straight away lol My neighbours only just moved in, i have a ferret sanctuary and they complained to another neighbour before they even moved in, i also have four dogs who are exceptionally good guard dogs so it's pot luck weather the bird is just another noise or the icing on the cake, time will tell. It's made worse as they are stay at home doleys, wouldn't be so bad if they were out at workaall day. I like the red fronted conure, ifi lived in a field i would have loads i don't mind the noise although my friend came with me to collect millie and she did one loud screech as we got home she said she couldn't cope with a bird like that. Are senagals as noisey? |
