Well again ive been out bying more new toys for geoffrey and beaky my two greys

it seems to be a compitition who can distroy it first and how quickly lol

thought it may be good idea for suggestions for home made toys and foot toys that will be safe

instead of buying the ususual playtoys plus save a little money too.

also pictures of home made toys and gyms would be good for all members to see for different ideas

A very good idea! and very topical, as I have just ordered Norm some MORE toys.....

I (well Norm actually) am particularily interested in preening and shredding toys, so any ideas would be great. He loves the spiked pinatas from Northern Parrots, but at £10.99 they are pretty dear.

It seems to me that as we get our fair share of pluckers/cutters that we could maybe buy these in bulk!

Our 2 CAGs both love shredding paper. I roll up 6 double sheets of newspaper and stuff them inside a toilet roll innard. Wedged in between the bars of their cages provides hours of entertainment.

Another toy I make is using mini cereal boxes (the individual funsize packs), pack them with foraging stuff, favourite nuts, newspaper, shredder 'tape' fed through the box and tied cotton rope knots through holes in the sides. Charlie particularly enjoys unpacking and destroying these, seeing what goodies he can discover. You could even put coconut coarse 'hair' inside to encourage the preeners.

I find that they seem to enjoy home-made toys more than bought ones.

Must admit, after lots and lots of money spent at Nothern Parrot and many, many hours worrying about Norm cutting his feathers while I am out , his most fav toy of the moment is a wine box turned on it's side! He chews and scratches like a chicken in it , then happily goes to sleep in it. When I come through the front door, worried to death about him, he staggers out , bleary eyed from his box announcing 'Good Boy'.

ps 3 weeks and still no feather loss. ....such a clever little bird!

pps he is left only 2 mornings, for 4 hours max.

well i tried helens idea toilet roll holder and newspaper gone down a treat look at this lol

well here is beaky with helens idea of ripped newspaper in a toilet roll, i stuck it between the bars but as you can see he wanted it for himself, doesnt want to share, i put two monkey nuts inside (roasted for human comsumption, not raw) and he spent about half hour rippng through it all

Charlie'll rip his from the bars if you let him! Glad Beaky's doing so well. He was a real sweetheart when we helped with his relay to his wonderful forever home!

I get Duplo (large lego) from charity shops or boot sales, takes them a bit longer to chew through it!
