Ditto Helen.Surface cleaners and room scenters are on my list. Though I am going to go down the fabric conditioner route for now.

So, do we know that the chemicals given off from hot diltuted fabric conditioner are any safer than candles???? I only ask, coz in winter, I dry clothes on an airer infront of our wood burning stove. Surely the chemicals are just as bad. Does anyone know for sure?

If the fabric conditioner was used as a spray to freshen carpets ect I'm guessing it would be cold.....

Sorry, I was on about it being put on a hot radiator on a flannel
......but there again is it OK cold??

Most chemicals such as soaps and things like fabric conditioners contain surfactants. These can interact with the cells lining the airways (in humans) and cause damage as a result. That's why you shouldn't directly inhale aerosols of such chemicals. I honestly don't know very much about air sac biology in birds, but I would guess that it really isn't a good idea to spray mists of such chemicals. Although, diluting them would help, I suspect they still have the potential to harm. Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

Just dont use them around the birds or where the birds will be you still have to use chemicals in your home just becareful i use candles and air freshners but its where the birds never are and will never be in contact with them.

It is the time of year again when the 'Christmas air fresheners' and scented candles are being advertised with a vengeance on the TV. Just thought I'd bump this again to remind of the dangers of these chemicals to birds.
