We very nearly had a disaster with one of these. Thank god we were here at the time. Ruby our scarlet macaw loves rope toys with wooden bits on. She chews the wood , and snuggles the rope.Joe yelled for me to come in from the kitchen where I was preparing our evening meal. It was mad panic, Ruby had managed to wrap the rope around her neck and her foot, and was literally hanging, unable to free herself.Joe had to grab a towel to hold her , while I cut the rope free of the cage to get her out, and then untangle her. Luckily we managed to free her before disaster struck, and apart from her being in shock, she is back to her normal self. I felt I should share this with you all, as I know these toys are very popular and our birds do love them. In all the years I have had my flock, this has never happened before and I would hate the thought of this happening to any of your birds. Needless to say I have taken these toys out of all my cages.

A few years ago, I had bad experience with a bell, the bird had got the ringer bit off. It was a flat bit which pierced and was stuck fast in its beak. Now I only have bells, like a ball with the ringer inside.

It might be a good idea for us all to share our experiences, to warn others of particular dangers you have found with toys, and the ones you find are the best and safest.

glad ruby is ok! I had the same kind of thing happen with my grey, and got his foot tangle in rope and was hanging upside down!! I took all of the rope out of the other cages too.
