Hi to everyone at Birdline

I am new to the site so I thought I would try and introduce myself. I am 20 years old and my entire life has been spent being animal mad, for the past three years I have worked at Shuttleworth College on their fantastic animal unit that has everything from parrots and meerkats to caimen! I voulenteer for Woodgreen animal shelter in Godmanchester and often work at the local Veterinary surgery as a spare nurse. I havent kept birds since I was very young because for a while I did not believe in keeping birds in cages. It wasn't until recently when my mother was reading the newspaper and saw that birdline needed more safehouses/fosterers that I decided to think more closely about adding a bird to the family (my mother always had parrots as a child and adores them so is quite keen on having one!) When I googled birdline I was amazed at all the dedicated people on here and really pleased that so many poor birds have found their forever homes. since discovering birdline i've realised that there are people out there like me who do everything they can to keep their animals happy and my mind has been completely changed about having a pet bird- seeing some of your posts just goes to show there is no need to keep a bird caged!

So now my mum is a full member and we have submitted an application to have a feathered friend join our family and i'm so excited! Recently after terrible and unfortunate events the number of animals in what the neighbours call our own personal zoo has decreased quite a lot  my beautiful bengal cat went missing for 3 weeks before somebody dumped her little body on the doorstep. it would have been her fifth birthday and everyone in my house was devestated! then just 2 months later my 4 year old rottie (and baby!!) that I got for my 16th Bday had to be PTS because of severe seizures that left him brain damaged just one week after that our domestic short hair (a beautiful girl that I hand reared and who was very ill and had 2 ops by the time she was 12 weeks) got run over just outside our houseSo now after much grieving we are looking to the future and would love to offer a forever and very loving home to a rescue bird (no matter how long that takes as I am not buying only rescueing!)

So..I live with my mother and 3 siblings, sister aged 18 and 2 brothers 14 and 11. We have three dogs, a chocolate and tan minature dachshund, a tiny white JRT and a English mastiff cross American Bulldog. My bedroom is home to 2 Leopard geckos, a Hermann tortoise, a Bearded dragon and my crocodile gecko. My mum is a stay at home mum as my 14 year old brother is autistic and both her and my brother are housebound (another reason we thought we could offer a good home for a parrot- attention 24/7!) and I think that is everything lol!

A bit long winded but got carried away waffling about my animals lol Thanks for reading and hope to meet some people on here as obsessed with animals as I am

Leanne

Hi Leanne, welcome to BL. I think Lesley G may be your ACO (I think Cambridge is in her area), so no doubt she'll be in touch. We'd love to see pics of your 'family zoo' - we're all animal as well as bird lovers

Edited with Lesley's correct initial lol
