We have had a dehumidifier for the four years we have been living in this cottage as the place is very old and was very damp. We just have one room downstairs which is our kitchen with a small area to sit and three pretty large birdie cages. The stairs go up in the same room and the dehumidifier sits at the bottom of the stairs and is large enough (in capacity not size) to cope with a five bedroom house. We only have two bedrooms and a small upstairs living room. In the four years it has had no adverse effect on the birds but makes an awful lot of difference to the cottage. Today it has beeen piddling down on and off all day. We will get a gallon of water in 24 hours easily!! I would certainly recommend one if you have a bit of a damp problem. The one we have is made by Ebac and cost about 160 quid.

Thank you Vicky, that is much appreciated

the one we are thinking about is this one..

Due to the not opening of windows and doors, because of the parrots, we tend to have a problem with mould and such at the front of the house, so may go ahead with the purchase!

Margy check your insallation as well that can help with the mould and heat will get rid of it and kill it off as its bacteria.

Thanks Steve, think it's more condensation than lack of insulation!

Got to be careful with bleach around the birds though, it can burn the inside of their throat!
