hi , i am new to this forum, i have just subscribed to the birdline parrot rescue, i probably am a bit nieve, but ive always thought of dogs and cats needing rescuing, as ive read the stories, i never realised there were so many birds out there needing rehoming. i have been looking on the net today to buy a parrot, but then i just happened to type parrot rescue, and saw all these birds needing rehoming, so i have applied to be a foster mother instead.
i have 4 birds of my own, Posh & Becks, red pennant and gold mantle rosella, and 2 parrotlets. i love them to bits, they know when i get up in a morning, becks is very noisey and he loves to whistle, i cant whislte,my husband whistles with becks and they have competitions who can last out. (becks usually wins) which is one reason i would like a parrot as they will talk to me when my hubby switches off. im sure a parrot would be a great addition to the family, sofingers crossed we are successful.

Hi and welcome to birdline !!!!! Whereabouts are you? Sounds like a lovely flock you have there. If you contact your aco, Im sure he/she will help you. We are always in need of safehouses, as well as fosterers. They would love to hear from you. |

hi ann, iambased inpreston lancashire, just on the edge of all motorways near Bamber Bridge. i cant wait to get involved, as i said in my intro, i cant believe there are so many unwanted birds. And i do have to say whoever writes the stories for the birds to be rehomed, it made me want all of them!! they were great. |

hi steve, thanx for that. I really cant wait. i am the most impatient female in the whole wide world!! i dont know how im going to cope waiting to get a reply. Ive even been researching cages in the pet shop today, and ive been on the forum all evening trying to research procedures, and timings, and all about african greys. its worse than being pregnant and waiting the 9 months!!!
the list of birds has changed since i looked yesturday, i have actually applied to foster Archie 1626, but i think reading back on a previous post, so has someone else on here. ive just been back through the list, and also like, poppy, eric, borris, and sid. if the are any safe housing parents out there that have anymore info on these guys i really would appreciate a little more info if poss.
i cant wait to hear from you, and i look forward to reading lots more posts. |

Hi everyone, I am also new to Birdline and thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself. Since 2003 I have been wishing to offer a home to a parrot, but it is only recently when my sister and her family (husband and four year old) moved in to my large house, that I felt the time is right. I work but my sister is at home every day.
I have now joined Birdline with a view to both making contact with like minded people, and maybe fostering a bird. I have to say that although having only been a member for a couple of weeks, I feel like its been much longer. I live in Brixham and seem to be lucky in that there are a number of long established members nearby, having been in contact with some, I have been made to feel very welcome and have had lots of fantastic advice, so thank you all for that.
I have been looking at the foster list and in particular a Barraband. There is not a fantastic amount online about this specific breed! His safe house is in fact opposite where I work, and I have been able to visit him and talk to his safe house careers to get a large amount of information.
I have now put in a fostering application, and am sitting back in anticipation, or is it trepidation! My only slight concern (if you can call it that), is that Barraband in question has not been handled for a long time, I am worried about how much work we shall have to do with him, and how to go about it, to get him to the stage where he is confident enough to step up etc. He is VERY chilled about people so hopefully should be ok? I am confident that with the help so far received from other members, I will be able to deal with whichever bird I end up with.

Hello, I am also a newbe and would very much like to get invoved with Fostering. However, I'm based in Torquay and was lucky to be able to go to Paignton Regatta and chat with some other members, having had a talk with Sharon I am now considering Safe housing. I've emailed for some more information but I have a holiday booked at the beginning of October so I think it'll be best to leave it until after then, but I can't wait!! |

Welcome everyone. Its a bit scary thinking what I might be responsible for! I am sure you won't reget becoming a part of Birdline and hope to see you soon if we can fit in any more shows, or hear of a successful fostering maybe! |
