Thankyou mandy for your kind words...
Hi Helen, years ago i'd say there diet wasn't as good. My mum used to feed them a good quality seed but little else.. and certainly no vitamins but they always had access to calcim blocks (Gemmi just demolishes them in seconds btw..). They did used to get the odd grapes and apple pieces etc but i wouldn't have said it was part of their diet.
But since i've had them, they've had a pot or good quality seed mix (Bamfords deluxe parrot with fruit) a bowl with 3 differing fruits and 3 differing veg and a bowl of water.. with a tidbit (biscuit piece usually) for being good while i'm out at work all day as a reward.
All the birds have access to calcium blocks (bar Gemmi due to the 30 second disappearing acts he does). But i do give them a little calivet once a week on there fruit and veg.
About 12 months back i switch the parrots onto a complete food (pretty bird) in order to stop the "choosiness" from the seed (sunflowers were fav..) and now they pick and choose the colour? lol.. who'd have thought hey.. anyhow.. thats what they eat as a rule..
I think Gemmi started when my mum and dad decided to have more birds effectively putting him a little out of the limelight somewhat.. that and the fact that Sammi is all too willing to help strip him bare... I stop them when i see it.. but its like trying to empty a bath of water with a fork!
I think its just a habbit for him.. he has things to chew, eats plenty.. and time out as much as i can.. Habbits are hard to break.. I dont think he's particularly an unhappy bird either... but they are all very very wary birds due to the small amount of handling they've had when young.. and very few people interact with them either.. Now days as much through the mutual fear they share i guess..
Thanks for the thought though.. and i'm going to try and get a chat with shell tonight.. if she's free etc...
Once again thankyou all for your kinds words...
Oh btw.. looks like the g/f's is a no go with Katie either.. she put his to her children who simply aren't keen on the idea.. so its looking like we'll be seeing less of each other in the near future :-(... who knows what tomorrow might bring hey? I cant wait.. lol
