I don't understand the logic... Last Wednesday, a very friendly Grey wandered into the local Cricket Club. The bird jumped on to lots of different people, and everyone thought it was great fun to feed him salted peanuts. On the following Friday (yesterday) said Grey was brought home by someone with a brain cell. A friendly copper happened to have a scanner, and the bird is chipped. They made a note of the number, rang the local vet, and, you'd think, job done. Wrong. It took the vet ages and ages to get through to the Tracking number, and when they did, there was a message... 'We're only open Monday to Friday, 9-5'. Wonderful. The people brought the bird to me. The original owners must be going frantic, this bird has obviously been loved and handled a lot, but we're going to have to wait unti Monday for the vet to contact the company again, and find out the details of the owners, so we can get the bird back home.

My doctor has Wednesday afternoons off. If I'm ill, there's another number I can ring, so I can be seen to. I find it really strange that birds are only allowed to get lost Mon-Fri, hard luck if it's at the weekend... I just feel for the owners, if it was me I'd be climbing the walls.

Doddie at least this bird will eventually be reunited with its owners so it's luckier than many others, though I do feel for its owners. You're right they will be frantic. Beggers belief that it is not manned 24/7. I will be queering this with my vet, and the chipping company if needs be, because I assume the same would apply if one of my cats or dog was found outside "opening hours"?? Thanks for bringing to our attention- I for one thought it worked round the clock...... I am not even mentioning idiots feeding any animals salted peanuts and then leaving it to fend for itself. Did no one think it may have escaped and needed a bit of human intervention???? I'm sure you know what my thoughts are......

Got to admit, I thought it was a 24/7 thing too.
Think a few complaints need sending in.
Im sure most people think the same when they get their pets chipped.

Some of my birds are chipped and its a 24 hour hotline and if you find the bird and a vet scans it it automatically tells you my name number and address!!!

Steve, can you get me the number to call please? I know it depends on the make of chip... I have Pet Log's number, and Pet Track, too. It'll be too late to worry about this particular bird, but would perhaps be useful in the future. He's doing fine atm, tucking in to his fruit. At least he's been fed fruit, which is a nice change from lots of birds that come in here who've never seen fruit & veg...
Thanks,
Doddie
