Oodies foot just got trapped in a closing door.
I got a shreik and he's on one foot, fluffed up with the dozy look about him (10mins later)
The foot works fine...he can grab and there are no tears etc. He's stopped a slow building squark if you touch it now but it's clear he wants the weight off it. He'll use it if hes desperate to eat a grape...which suggests its not that bad...and he can land fine.
Do you think I've been lucky this time? Anything else I should do? I'm thinking it might be best if I cage him for a few hours.

Is it swelling at all? If there is no bruising or too much swelling then i'd just leave him be and keep an eye on him. If it starts to bruise up/blister i'd consider taking him to a vet - my tiel did this many years ago which blistered so had to get it looked at. |

Thanks Looks ok at the minute...it obviously hurts a lot because hes going for the oscar but he's still doing his normal bed routine so hopefully its just bruising. Still horrible though - they are sooo fragile |

i hope oddie feels better soon....
i just found this on line.... (its from another parrot rescue)
Cuts, bruises and burns
Aloe vera gel, Calendula and Dr Bach Rescue Remedy cream can be applied locally.
Arnica can be crushed and added to soft foods and fed with a spoon.
Aloe vera is also available as a solution, a few drops of which can be added to drinking water.

Aw poor Oddie
I slammed a door shut in haste one day and on top of the door was one of my grey's Roxxi! she screamed but I couldn't get close to her at all. Eventually, we decided that her toe was bleeing and we did manage to put some aloe soother on it! She really just wanted to be left alone but it must have hurt i went to work feeling really guilty!
The next day she was trying not to use it and had to use her beak to get around, poor baby, I really felt awful for her, so heartbreaking to watch.
It wasn't till a couple of day later that the top layer of skin/scales fell off her toe and we realised that it really MUST have hurt her, poor chickie had a really pink toe for a while but it didn't stop her after a few days!
Nothing was broken or damaged thankfully, so you'll probably find if she's using it, it'll be just fine. |

sorry for no update! Distraction - Grey just arrived - he's much older and alert than last time...lovely bird His foot seems fine, no after effects thank god. That was a horrible little experience. He follows me everywhere like a little green shadow and all these newcomers to the house are messing up the safety of the routines. Thanks for the help to all above, I'm glad I have BL to turn to when these things happen |

haha I haven't forgotten either. It will come one day! I've go one of me on a boat looking like Rambo but no white ones (except from 96) Aww the grey is sooo lovely. It's grown up a bit and become hugely cuddly and kissy with the start of the grey explorer. Meanwhile you-know-who wants the Grey's playstand; the Grey wants to bite the dog; the dog wants to eat the seed; foodie wants everyone to bog off. I'm really at my outer tolerance for pets, even temporary, at the minute....I don't know how you do it. We had a little 'timeshare' sitting on me to watch TV earlier eugh must go dog is eating a grey morning poo. that can't be good |
