because

Gucci my male galah, has started to develop a (don't know quite how to describe it), either side of his beak, in the crease, corner of his mouth, a pink lump, like a nodule!

Now he was 4 in march, is it just his development or is it something that needs a vet? Not quite sure if it's normal or not!

Margy, does it affect both sides? Or is it just one-sided? If the latter, then I'd definitely get it checked out - if bilateral, then wait to see if anyone replies. Hope the flock, you and Les are all well x

Oops - sorry just reread your post - bilateral. Not sure then.

In humans a thickening in that area might be called 'angular stoamtitis' or 'angular chelosis'. In humans, it can be the result of iron or B12 deficiency, but I know your flock get all the recommended supplements and a good healthy diet.

Then again, just because her birds get the very best and get all the essential nutrients etc, perhaps for some reason his body isn`t absorbing or processing it as it should leading to a deficiency?
I know Margy gives her birds the absolute best of everything but you can`t see what goes on inside.
Let me know how you get on with him Margy xx

I have a male galah, and so does Sheila. Neither of them have anything like you describe, but  I will check mine again when you put a pic on.

What do you think?

I also am aware that there are 3 sub species of galah, so maybe this is a variant!

Yes, that's what we think though someone has said it shouldn't be like this, take him to the vets, just getting lots of opinion's, hopefully from galah owners.

thanks for your input Anne!

It looks nothing like mine, must be a different sub species. Mine has almost bare eye rings with a couple of pink spots that are more like ]freckles. I will see if i can find a close up photo to compare.

Sharon, Gucci spends most of his day outside and it first started to appear(around his eyes) when he went outside, we went to te vet for something or other, thought it was sunburn but the vet said no it''s just his development.

There are 3 subspecies, your galah looks a different one to Gucci! he's evry nobbly though isn''t he? A lovely cuddly boy though

How old is your boy?  by the way, he's gorgeous too  I love galah's

Thank you Shell, and Steve. The pic is of Rossi, who used to be Rosie until he was sexed. He is 11 this year, but doesn't like to go outside so that may be why his cheeks are not the same as Gucci. He is adorable, but a little tyrant!
