Hey everyone, I'm a student living in Cumbria with Rocky the Red-Bellied Parrot and 3 little mice - though back home I have a menagerie of cats, dogs, fish, chinchillas and chickens.

I've come here seeking advice because I'm sad to say I'm feeling like a very bad parrot owner and I'm having a lot of aggression issues with my little bird which I'm pretty sure I can only blame myself for but I'd like to have a happy parrot again and I'm not sure the best way to go about changing things.  Anyway, that's me in brief, now I'll go find the appropriate sub-forum to post my bird's story in.

Hi Red,

Welcome to the Forum. This is the perfect place to find help. Can I ask, is your bird a red-bellied macaw? How old is he/she? And has their behaviour changed recently? If I remember, red bellieds need a very specific diet that MUST include Palm nuts, but someone who has more experience will be along with more advice soon. The only red-bellied that I met was a grumpy little devil, apparently because they mostly live in large flocks and need birdy company.

How long have you been 'owned' by Rocky? And was he/she hand-reared? Also, I think he/she should be Cites registered, so do you have any paperwork?

Sorry about all the questions, but we allwant to help as much as possible.

Hoping Rocky is soon a happier birdy x

Hey, thanks for the replies. He's a 5 year old Poicephalus rufiventris if you want his latin name so no, not a macaw, I didn't realise there would be confusion or I would have said. He was hand reared and I've had him since he was 6 months old. I'm afraid I don't have the paperwork which I know is really bad... I thought my mum had it filed but when I asked her about it she didn't know where it was so not really sure about that one. I've posted in the Behavioural Issues forum giving (what I hope) is a full picture of what's been going on, so I guessing it's best to continue the discussion there.
