Right then people - basically I start a new job - therefore Im moving house however the parrot has to come with me - so Im looking for rented accomendation however  on Saturday gone I found a lovely little pad and basically I signed the deposit ect - However got a phone call Monday saying I cant move in now as I have the parrot and the landlords are affraid of the parrot shouting all the time. Which he doesnt do.

So I phoned every land lord and agency in Halifax who has one bed flats or apartments - and No one will accept the parrot .... Apart from one - which will come to around £500 PER MONTH in rent for a 1 bedsit basically where as before I had a brand new bed sit for £325 but no cancelled on me....

So what do I do ???

Do I just accpet a place and not tell the landlord I have a parrot and move in - or do I do the honest thing and keep telling them or do I bite the bullet and the pay the extra for something thats not special... ???

When I was up at uni we had the landlord agree to accept a small 'budgie' when he came to visit mind he said 'thats a big budgie!!'

Please help Im sure some one must have occured the same problem.

I'm sorry to say that honesty is always the best policy as you will probably get caught out sooner or later and evicted or loose your deposit then matters will be so much worse. Could you get a statement from your current neighbours declaring what you say is true about your parrot being quiet and not a nuisance?

i have 3 cockatiels two, two dogs and a patagonian conure (who now lives with my mom) ... it was hard when me and my fiance looked for a flat to rent but we made sure we rang all flats even ones that said no pets aloud but always mentioned we had good refirences and would pay extra deposite incase of damage from animals, what we did say is that the birds where caged and that seemed to go down well ( they are in a cage but not often lol) we did also not mention what the birds where was till they asked. It can be diff but we just rang everything we could find in our price range i hope you can find an understanding landlord. I know its a little lie but could you not say that if the bird did cause a problem you have someone who can look after him like your nan? that way they might feel abit happier about taking you on as tenants.

Yup, honesty the best policy just in case he does shout and someone complains. At least if you have been up front they shouldnt boot you out.

my mate rents and she has 1 bird 2 cats 1 dog and 2 dragons ,,and all he said was if the animals do any damage she must replace it

alot of places dont except pets im affraid, but there are also plenty that do.....just seach round a bit longer see if you can drop on a good one

I suppose it is easier for landlords to say no and usually letting agents automatically say no to pets and/or children too.  I agree if possible speak to the landlords direct and offer to pay a bigger deposit.  It is a very difficult situation. Dont give up hope and ask around if anyone knows of a bird friendly landlord.  (When we moved we had to find accommodation for 3dogs and 5cats - it wasnt easy and we did end in not a very desirable area but it worked out ok in the end)

My sister is looking for rented accomadation and everyone like yours did said no, I am friendly with an estate agent, which his company automatically say no and I spoke to him direct about her dog, and he said it wouldn't be a problem it was the policy of the agency not the landlord (well not them all) and he is now getting it sorted for her, maybe you could ask people if they know any agents directly. The other option is to go back to the original one, and ask him if would be willing to see the bird and go from there, a long shot I know but if he wants a good tenant. Also what bird do you have as alot of landlords hear the word parrot and assume its a Macaw, as they don't know which species are classed as parrots, it may be easier saying for example you have a senegal bird or a amazon bird, so you haven't lied and there is no confussion on the word parrot, as I said lots of people assume huge birds when in fact as we all know they are not always huge! one other suggestion is going onto the letting sites and see if any of them have been on there for say 3 months, as the landlord may have said no animals but with them having no money coming in from rental they maybe willing to change their policy just to get a tenant, if the agent still say no, present the fact that it has been empty a while could they possibly go back to the landlord and ask again! Hope these ideas help. x
