The better weather has arrived and with that the need/desire to let fresh air into our lives.

A moment's inattention can cause a lifetime of loss.

Watch those doors and windows, pass on the message, and be careful out there.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of clipping, if your bird escapes you will wish you had done it!

(Not my words. Copied from another forum, but I thought really sound advice!)

Military operation in this household with so many small ones who will never be clipped.

Praying that my outdoor flight gets done soon so I can have the french doors open in the hopefully warmer weather to come!

Sound advice thought as BL always gets lots of escapees during the summer, so sad as inevitably, too many are never reunited!

I know probably preaching to the converted, but even clipped birds can be in danger, with open doors, they can 'wander' out and the local cat can wander in, so its stay alert at all times...we have just about made our home walk out proof and fly out proof but we still worry and worry every time.

My one aim is to serve the parrots in my care, to help those to weak to defend themselves, and bring alittle happiness into their lives, I prefer parrots to people but can handle them in moderation :)

I take my bird outside and leave him out side for a while - If its a nice evening I even stick him in a tree... and he just sits there listening to the birds - Ive even washed my car whilst hes been sat there -

We had a Grey handed in by the RSPCA last year. He was found under a car in the street. I hunted around, and eventually found the distraught owner, half a mile from where the bird had been found. The owner had been told by his vet that his bird was incapable of flight, the wings were disabled in some way, so said bird wasn't clipped, and was used to going out in the garden in the sun. On this particular day, bird was sat on perch in the dining room. Owner came in carrying a box of crockery. Tripped. Crockery all over the floor - huge noise. Bird panicked, flew out of the back door. Owner devastated. This one was lucky, because I did make an effort to find and return bird to home, but it just goes to prove that however tame/loving/inseparable the bird is to the owner, a big fright will make even a 'flightless' bird go, instinctively. It's a big risk. Not worth it. Gorilla, all that's needed is a car backfiring, or a bird of prey flying overhead, and your bird will be spooked. Wingclipped birds need to be tested regularly to make sure the clip is still safe.
