Calling all you guys for opinions once again!!

We stock Walnuts, Brazils, Almonds all in the shell and Cashews and Pistachios out of the shell but are looking into a few others.

We have been asked about Pecans in the shell which I know I can get, also for Palm Nuts which I am looking into, and I am also thinking of Pine Nuts and Cedar Nuts.

Wondering which ones people give to their birds?

Ours are really funny, only like Brazils in the shell, love Cashews, some like Pistachios too, Max and Molly like Almonds, all so different, so I thought I`d see what the Birdline flock are partial to?

Mine would all sell their soul for a walnut. I give them odd almonds, hazel nuts and pecans which they also enjoy, and pistachios are also a hit but I have only seen the roasted ones in shells for humans which have salt so they don't get many, but enjoy them. The cedar nuts from the AS20 seed are my macaws favourite thing in the world, and I think they are great for putting in foraging toys. I have never tried them with cashew nuts, but none of them would touch pine nuts, Sharon L bought some and couldn't give them away, nobody would eat them!

Kai cag would sell her soul for pine nuts, they are my training/bribery secret weapon.

Benji sennie loves them too, but you can't bribe him to do anything

Herbi tag just adores cashew nuts (me too) and will use them to bribe him when he's ready, now they're just treats

Most of my lot love roasted monkey nuts. No-one will touch brazils, hazlenuts, cedar nuts, but my 'too loves a walnut with a small hole in the shell to go to bed with. Only one a day - she refuses to eat more than one... Avian Specific seed has cedar nuts in, and I collect them to give to a friend whose CAGs all love them, so I honestly think it's down to individuals. No-one here likes palm nuts. I can't use anything to bribe anyone with, sadly. It's a mystery how I get my birds, plus any long-term extras, to go into the cages on command, but somehow they do!

Scarlett, reading the title of this, I thought you were commenting on the nature of BL members

But seriously, our 2 boys love walnuts in the shell and pine nuts. They don't like brazils, cashews, hazelnuts or almonds. As you know, Charlie adores palm nuts and I for one would be a customer if you could get them in. I haven't tried cedar nuts, but I have a safehouse bird here that I may pinch one or two from his AS5, so that Charlie and Joey can try. I know his usual safehouse Mum won't mind

People on Birdline nuts? No way, i would never say that!! It`s not as if they all devote their houses, lives and spare time and cash to hundreds of birds or anything as nuts as that now is it?!! Hehe

So as far as nuts go then, if I can stock a variety there`s going to be something to suit everyone.
I am working on Palm Nuts for you as promised, and the Pecans for Victoria, and looking into any others I can get. It`s all about being able to do them at good prices too.
Thanks for all your input yet again, it means so much because you all have a mix of birds so i get lots of different views.

Charlie picks the cedar nuts out of the AS5 before anything!

We sell a lot of nuts, Brazils in the shell, Walnuts and Almonds in the shell etc so I`ll have to increase the range if I can.

Birds that eat healthy stuff like nuts!!?? Jenny Conure and Peefer Hahns are squabbling over a spoonful of raspberry ripple ice cream I am holding while writing this. U2 loves pine nuts though and knows which container and which kitchen cupboard they are kept in. Going a bit off topic if you ever take those Alli slimming tablets or the doctors equivalent NEVER EVER eat pine nuts due to their high fat content leave the outcome to your imagination but not a good idea!!

My Kakariki's love Walnuts and Peanuts which come shelled in their small parrot mix... I also give them Pistachio which I buy shelled and add a few to their fresh fruit/veg mix.. they normally eat the nuts first.. most of the other nuts are too big for them.. but I expect they'd go crazy over Pine nuts if they were offered aswell.

I know this is an old posting but I'm a new member. Talking about nuts, well, when I lived in Australia I had a cockatoo who loved Macadamia nuts. I know they are expensive to buy but they are a natural nut for the parrots. We had them growing in our garden and the tree was nearly always shaking with the birds after the macadamia. they taste real good too

By-the-way Scarlett - did you ever get palm nuts? - I have to confess that I don't check your site too often as I have to tear myself away from the toys

Scarlett, would be possible to sell mixed bags of nuts so that those of us that are at the trial and error stage don't have to buy seperate types of nuts only to find our birds won't eat them . I would love to try my gang on different nuts but I stick to what I know they will eat so as not to waste money. Laura

Two of my guys will kill for walnuts. Jasper Jardines favourite is an almond whilst Thea (CAG) adores roasted peanuts (must be roast). Contrary to SharonH's earlier comment. they do like pine nuts, it is palm nuts that were a disaster as was palm nut extract.

They only each get one nut per day as a treat as/when I go out. For that purpose, and only having 5 birds (plus SH) the bags of unsalted mixed nuts from the supermarket are quite good. Must say. I am a bit worried to try macademia's just incase they get to like them too much!
