Having read a lot of different advice on feeding grit and/or cuttlefish to parrots (Africans in particular) it seems that even the professionals can't agree so I was wondering what the feelings are here, any thoughts much appreciated.

Cuttlefish is OK to give if your bird will bother with it - Many of mine dont.  But grit is a no-no, it can stick in the crop and cause an impacted crop, not good

Hope it's going OK with the little fella

All mine love a munch on cuttlebone from the canaries through to the cockatoo. The luvvies use it as a dining table, nail/beak file and amuse themselves on it for ages.

I go through loads and loads of it as well as calcium supplements.

Vicky you've just reminded me. Joey our tiel (as you know now at Rainbow Bridge) used to hollow them out when horizontal, so that he could rest his fat little bottom on it. He was so cute.

Thanks people, very helpfull as usual! will try Danny with a bit of cuttlefish, more to amuse him than anything, he is slowly checking out more the fruit and veg and he has learnt that paper shredding can be fun and a good way of letting off steam, he is showing a preference for me and can be a bit snappy towards my wife so any advice there would be welcome.
