I would like to include a picture from my photobucket account in my signature. However when I try to edit the sig in my profile, it just shows the IMG code as text. I would be grateful for any pointers.

You need to copy the HTML text from Photobucket. Usually these photo sites have different text that you can copy. You are trying to paste the BBCode Tag, and that doesn't work on this site, you need to paste the HTML Tag. Where ever you copied the text from Photobucket, you need to look for a box for HTML.
