Hi guys, I'm using F10 but it costs nearly £60 a litre and will all the cages I have to clean, it doesn't last anytime at all.

I did see somewhere 5 litres for £120 but I can't find it on the net now!!

Just wondered whether there are othe cheaper but good products out there that are bird friendlyand good!

Cheers

Hi Vic can I jump on your bandwagon? I can't get the posh stuff. Is dettol ok if it's diluted to human baby levels? It says non-poisonous on the side which I know relates to humans but bear in mind I always fresh water rinse everything anyway

I use Johnson's Clean 'n' Safe, the pink one, specifically safe for birds. Not terribly expensive, I think £3 or £4 per bottle, and I scrub, spray, soak in hot,hot water, using a rough pan scrubber and a scraper, to get the cage clean first, then disinfect it with Johnson's. Seems to work ok. I only use F10 when there is a sick bird about, or it's a cage that has come in from a bird that died... with extra dirty cages, I get my husband to blast them with a pressure stray in the garden. Johnson's smells nice, too.

In the New Year, well, just after Xmas I will be stocking F10 and the Johnsons cleaner.
Already stock the Avisafe.
Just thought I`d mention it, people seem to like what they like and stick to the ones they know well, so I am trying hard all the time to keep up with demand.

If you work the price of F10 out and how it dilutes it really works out a lot cheaper than the pink stuff.

We have 8 large cages to clean every day and stands and a concentrated bottle seems to last forever! are you sure you are diluting it to the correct amount?

I use the cage cleaner you get in the pet shops but have just bought a hand held steam cleaner from Argos. It's about the size of a kettle and comes with different tools including a little brush which is great for getting all the yuk out of the small twiddly bits. It's great for sandy perches to it as just blasts the poo off!! Because it is only small it is easy to store and get out when needed. It cost just under £30 and I would defiately recomment one.

Right

Please dont shoot me down and dont anyone say they have been 'sheila'd'... am getting so that I dare not post now!!!

Dettol does not seem to be safe for birds, or anything remotely like it.

I spoke to an old man on the phone not long ago who was in pieces cos his bird had died cos he had used dettol on his cages.

Its far better to use a bird friendly cleaner or disinfectantthat is known to be safe..(reasonably cheap from pet shops) like the one shell uses or similar.
i use F10 tiny amount in my bucket of water..lt works out cheaper in the end and its totally safe.
Vicky I had several of those steam cleaners and they dont last thast long in the ned I bought a much bigger one for just over £30 from believe it or not... fashion world... it has a long pipe and is brill....several of my ACOs also have them.. (if yours gives up the ghost).

To be honest the best way that I clean my cages (and I have a birdroom with tiled floor but...) is to spray them totally with a water spray.. (I use hose pipe cos I can) but a plant sprayer is just as good (just harder work) and spray the cage ... leave it for a few mins ... and EVERYTHING then jut wipes off!!!and hey ho sparkling clean cage.

Secret with dried on poo is to wet it and leave it for a bit then just wipe it off...... no scubbing needed!!!

Trust me I have a LOT of cages to do!!!!

WHACK *I've been Sheila'ed*

Thanks for putting me straight, I can't get the good stuff but then he's rarely in his cage anyway so the cleaning isn't a major job!!

I'm offline for a while now, flight tomorrow. Bird watched me pack and has since not allowed me to get more than 1 foot away, aww.

I use good old soap and water, and F10 like sheila says and on my laminate I use a wallpaper scrapper to get most of it off and then again like sheila says water to soak the rest...In the summer is easier as i hose them outside whilst my babes are in the tree...the only annoying one is one of the cages with loads of crevices!!!

Sorry to hijack, but after reading al the different cleaners everyone uses we now stock the Johnsons Cleaner and an F10XD. With the old F10 it was basically a sanitiser and not and actually cleaner, F10XD is the 2 combined so makes cleaning easier and better.
Sorry, not trying to promote my business, well, maybe just a little bit (we have 8 macaw mouths to feed you know, hehe), but I just wanted you to know that I hardly ever get much chance to post on here but I`m always lurking, reading posts and seeing what people are needing and using and trying to provide a good website of products to cater for everyone.

Scarlett, I've just placed a large order, including some F10XD but the site said stock was awaited, do you have any?

I'm also after vegetable parchment chubes, do you stock them? My babies like to chew, sleep and play in them.

Thought the site was great and nearly had a heart attack when I saw my bill, I wanted one of everything!! PMSL

Thanks

Vicky

Thanks Vicky, your order is packed and will be sent on Monday for you.Appreciate your order, you will have some VERY spoilt birdies there!!
I am waiting on the F10XD coming in sometime late next week, should definately be in next week though.
I don`t do vegetable parchment chubes YET! But I will look into that one.
Thanks again
Scarlett xx
