I was reading this (free online book) and thought it seemed odd, like it was written by Harry Enfields Mr Chomondley-Warner.

Its from 1884 haha.  Worth a browse for curiousiy.

"Chapter LXXIL. The Hyacinthine Macaw..........it is well suited for zoological gardens...........Miss Hagenbeck has occasionally exhibited one of these splendid birds. Dr. Finsch says he has heard one murmuring words of some foreign language in a deep bass voice."

I love this book. In this chapter Mr Chomondley-Warner remarks how a "Grey Parrot" may increase in value from 5 schillings to 20 schillings if it learns a few words.

Interesting that (apparently) every historic referennce to parrots is presumed to be an Alexandrine. Obvious when you consider how recently South America and Africa were explored.
