My friend has a congo and a timnah who are mating furiously, The conco boy (DEL ) is six and the Timnah girl is 4 (Tica) she called me to see if they can breed as they are vastly different in size, I had to say that i did not know,
Can anyone help?
Is Tica even old enough?
All advice gladly recieved,
Thanks, Jackie (roxysmum) |

It's not good for the two species to interbreed, it can cause problems with their babies and it is frowned upon in the breeding world - IMixing two different species is never a good thing to do. Can they not seperate them? |

Sorry, should say 4 is old enough but still not a good thing to do. When I say seperate them btw, I just mean seperate cages so they cant mate, not total seperation as I presume they are bonded. x |

Not if they are kept in side by side cages, and allowed supervised 'out' time. It's the safest way to avoid breeding, and because they can still see each other (and even beak if the cages are close enough) shouldn't cause any issues.

I had a BL CAG and TAG (Chrystal and Florrie) and as far as I am aware are still totally devoted to each other and are happily living together still. Florrie laid eggs one year, I must admit i was surprised, and was quite panicked but got loads of help and advise, they did'nt last though and were all smashed with 14 days. Florrie the TAG is the boss of the pair..Crystal who we renamed Kruger was definately the male part of the partnership. paula has or had them for awhile so would be a good source of advise. |

Everyone has been so great, Nicky now has my spare cage and watches them when they are out together, They seem to accept the wire seperation okay,
Thanks for all your help,
I told her to join birdline and get a matching boy if her girlie is still geting all sexed up, She is so worried about them being parted, At the moment all looks good so I hope they soon get used to it,
Love to you all
